Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer): Visit one the 7 wonders of the modern world. It was was considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world from 1931 until 2010 and is located at Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city.
 
Cinelândia: Popular name of a major public square in the centre of Rio de Janeiro. Its official name is Praça Floriano Peixoto, in honour of the second president of Brazil, Floriano Peixoto.It has a series of monumental public buildings facing the square. These are the Municipal Theatre (Theatro Municipal), the Brazilian National Library (Biblioteca Nacional), the Rio de Janeiro Municipality (Palácio Pedro Ernesto), the Higher Court (Tribunal Superior) and the National School of Fine Arts. The square concentrates a great part of the political and cultural life of Brazil. The buildings surrounding the square, mostly following the French Beaux-Arts architectural style, were a symbol of the modernisation of the city. 
 
15 November Square(Praça XV): The first residents on this historic site were Carmelite fathers who built a convent here in 1590. It later came under the property of the Portuguese crown (1808) and became Largo do Paço, which surrounded Paço Imperial, the royal palace. The square was later renamed Praça XV (Quinze) de Novembro after Brazil declared itself a Republic on November 15, 1889. A number of historic events have taken place here: the coronation of Brazil's two emperors (Pedro I and Pedro II), the abolition of slavery and the overthrow (deposition) of Emperor Dom Pedro II in 1889.

Cinelândia:  Nome popular de uma grande praça no centro do Rio de Janeiro. Seu nome oficial é Praça Floriano Peixoto, em homenagem ao segundo presidente do Brasil, Floriano Peixoto. Tem uma série de edifícios públicos monumentais de frente para a praça:  o Teatro Municipal, a Biblioteca Nacional, a Câmara dos Vereadores do Município do Rio de Janeiro (Palácio Pedro Ernesto), o Tribunal Superior Federal e a Escola Nacional de Belas Artes. A praça foi mais tarde renomeada Praça XV (Quinze de Novembro) depois que o Brasil se tornou República em 15 de novembro de 1889. Uma série de eventos históricos ocorreram aqui: a coroação dos dois imperadores do Brasil (Pedro I e Pedro II), a abolição da escravatura e a deposição do imperador Dom Pedro II em 1889.
